A TRULY UNIQUE GATHERING OFFERING A RECONNCTED RETREAT ATMOSPHERE, CHILL SESSIONS AROUND A PRISTINE POOL, BAR, GLAMPING, YOGA IN OUR MOUNTAIN SHALA, MASSAGE, ICE BATH, SUP (STAND UP PADDLING) ON THE RIVER, GUIDED MEDICINE WALK TO A WATERFALL (MICRODOSE EXPERIENCE), EPIC MOUNTAIN SUNSETS, STARBATHING AROUND A BONFIRE AND A SPECIFICALLY CURATED MEAL PLAN WITH VEG AND MEAT OPTIONS INCLUDED. HEAD TO THE LANDING TO RECONNECT WITH THOSE SPECIAL SOULS BEFORE LEAVING AFRICAN SHORES.


THE VIBE

After 7 days in the dust it is time for a hot shower, a cold swim and a proper meal. This retreat style gathering with our team of yoga instructors, massage therapists, braai masters, and adventure guides have curated the perfect space to land after the Tankwa. 


Think 40 humans reconnecting after the Tankwa shenanigans, awesome food prepared in local traditional methods over the fire including exotic local meats like ostrich and venison. Daily yoga class, star gazing under the Cederberg night sky around a huge bonfire, river swims, picnics, spit braai pool party with cocktails on a private nature reserve.



WHAT TO EXPECT

DAY 1

Enjoy a welcome drink on arrival when you check in at 4pm at Gecko Creek Nature Reserve. A traditional oxtail potjie dinner will be cooked on the fire. We will enjoy a night of stargazing around the bonfire to land and decompress after the weeks shenanigans. 



DAY 2

We start with a morning yoga class and meditation (optional) followed by breakfast. We will spend the day by the pool overlooking the beautiful Cederberg mountains. Enjoy a picnic style buffet lunch while lounging in the sun next to the pool. Drinks will be available to purchase at the bar. A tradition in South Africa on our most special occasions, we will put a free range Karoo lamb on a Spit braai that will be slowly cooked, rotisserie style, over the course of the day. Consider this pool side theatre as we enjoy mellow beats by the pool. 


1 hour SUP sessions on the river and massages will be available to book as an additional extra.  


DAY 3

Starts with a morning yoga session in the Shala (optional) followed by breakfast. A guided 5 hour medicine walk including permits and plant medicine (San Pedro/mescaline micro-dose) to a waterfall overlooking the valley. We return to the nature reserve to enjoy a light lunch. Late afternoon is time for our guided Wim Hof breath and ice bath session. For dinner we will be spending the night around the fire for a braai experience enjoying local, exotic, free range meats over the fire. 



DAY 4

The last day we will have a morning yoga class followed by breakfast. We will say our goodbyes and depart the nature reserve by 12am.



THE LOCATION

The Cederberg mountains are home to some of South Africa’s best hiking trails and rock climbing (Rocklands). These iconic mountains also contain ancient depictions of rock art from the indigenous Khoi and San people and hold great spiritual and natural value to our people. The Cederberg is also famous for world class star gazing and is the geographical home of rooibos tea. 200 km from Cape Town.


ACTIVITIES


YOGA: We start every morning with a daily yoga class, this gentle class caters to all levels and is an optional class for those that choose to join, expect a 60 minute class followed by a 30 minute meditation.


MEDITATION: Our daily morning rituals of yoga followed by a guided meditation in Shala space overlooking the mountain valley. This practice sets us up for the day and helps us to reflect and digest a rather busy week in the dust.


MASSAGE: Our in-house massage therapist will be offering 30 minute massages on a first come first serve basis. So grab your slot while they're available. Feel free to book online prior to arrival or via a card payment system on site if there's a slot available.


SUP: Stand Up Paddling excursions to the river are an added extra that's available. This 1 hour excursion including shuttle to the river and back is for groups of 8 people at a time. Limited spots available, so lock off yours when booking your ticket. 


HIKING: Our guided Medicine walk is included in the price as is the medicine that will give you a HD ( High Definition) hiking experience. This 5 hour return mission will take us to a beautiful mountain waterfall. This walk is also available to those that don't want any plant based assistance and purely want to come hike. Your hiking permit to the park is also included in your ticket price.


BREATHING AND ICE BATH SESSION: Our guided Wim Hof breathing workshop and Ice Bath is a beautiful way to boost the immune system. This optional workshop experience is included in the price. 


BIRD WATCHING: For the bird lovers out there, enjoy plenty endemic bird species from eagles to owls, crows to sunbirds that call this valley home. 


NATURE WALKS: Our private nature reserve boasts beautiful trails for you to saunter down at leisure. 


SWIMMING: Rehydrate, float, flop and frolic in our on site pool. 


TRAIL RUNNING: For the early birds out there catch a sunrise trail on one of many options in the reserve. 



THE FOOD

Our all inclusive model for this event ensures that all your food is covered whilst on site. We will be offering meat & veg options for every meal with a strong emphasis on local, exotic, organic free range meats and fresh produce.



DAY 1

The first night is Potjie night, a traditional South African dish made in a large metal pot over the fire. The veg/meat potjie will be served with rice and a side serving of roosterbrood and salad. 


DAY 2

In the morning we will serve freshly brewed coffee/tea with your choice of normal or plant milk as well as a freshly squeezed juice. After 7 lean days in the dust, we are going for a hearty farm style breakfast of doorstopper toast with scrambled organic farm eggs, bacon, herb dressed tomatoes, garlic mushrooms and traditional South African sausage (boerewors). For lunch we will enjoy a picnic style buffet spread of different locally produced cheeses, cured meats, crackers, preserves, local olives, dips and seasonal fruit. (Wine pairing options available from the bar) Dinner will be a slowly cooked free range Karoo lamb on the spit. This is an extremely special, slow cooked rotisserie style, fire driven dish. (A real treat that is often only served up on special occasions such as weddings, or post burn shenanigans) Dinner will be served around the pool at sunset. 


DAY 3

For breakfast we will have a healthy granola bowl with yogurt, freshly cut seasonal fruit and local fynbos honey in preparation for our medicine walk. Expect a freshly brewed coffee and freshly squeezed juice to wash your brekkie down. 

For lunch we will enjoy a build your own style fresh salad and healthy wrap buffet spread. The last night we will braai free range ostrich fillet and venison sausage (springbuck/kudu) on the fire, with a Greek salad, potato salad and garlic bread. 


DAY 4

We will enjoy a wholesome breakfast of Shakshuka and sourdough bread with your daily brewed coffee and veg/fruit juice. 



THE DRINKS

There will be a bar on site with card facilities selling beer, wine, cider, tequila, and cocktails. 




HOW TO GET THERE


FROM CAPE TOWN TO GECKO CREEK PRIVATE NATURE RESERVE? - 200 km

Travelling out of Cape Town on the N7 freeway heading North-West. 28km after Citrusdal turn right towards Cederberg Algeria. Cross the bridge and travel roughly 3km and Gecko Creek is on your right hand side. Please close the gate behind you. Another 2km to reception. If you reach Lilyas Farm you have gone too far. (This is our neighbour)



APPROACHING FROM AFRIKABURNS

Leave Quaggafontein (Tankwa Town) Head for the Tankwa padstal on the R355 in the direction of Ceres, roughly 1-2km after the Tankwa padstal take a right towards Kagga Kamma and the Klein Cederberg Reserve. Once you past these and have crossed Katbakkies Pass at the junction take the gravel road to your right (away from Dorp Op Die Berg) heading into the Cederberg mountains. Travel past Cederberg Oasis Campsite. Continue on this road all the way to Algeria Campsite. Take a left fork just after Algeria heading up the mountain in the direction of the N7 freeway (You will briefly get reception at Uitkyk Pass) a few km before Algeria. From Algeria it is 12km to the turn off to Gecko Creek Private Nature Reserve. You do not require a 4x4 vehicle but all these roads are gravel.


PLEASE KEEP IN MIND THERE ARE NO FUEL STOPS ON THIS GRAVEL BACK ROAD BETWEEN TANKWA TOWN AND GECKO CREEK. PLEASE ENSURE YOU FILL YOUR TANK PROIR TO ARRIVING AT THE BURN. THERE IS NO CELLPHONE RECEPTION IN THE TANKWA AND THE CEDERBERG. PLEASE STOP AT THE TANKWA PADSTAL TO MAP YOUR ROUTE, BEFORE LOSING RECEPTION. THE ABOVE BACKROADS THROUGH THE CEDERBERG ARE ALL GRAVEL ROADS. PLEASE TRAVEL SLOWLY AND IN CONVOY WITH FRIENDS TO ENSURE SAFE ARRIVAL. DOUBLE CHECK SPARE WHEELS IN CASE OF A FLAT. FEEL FREE TO CHECK IN WITH THE EVENT ORGANISERS IN THE CASE OF AN EMEGENCY. THERE WILL BE SMALL POCKETS OF CELL RECEPTION AFTER KATBAKKIES PASS, IF GOOGLE WONT GIVE YOU DIRECTIONS IN CAR MODE SWITCH TO WALKING MODE IN THE APP. MOUNT CEDER, OASIS, SANDDRIF & ALGERIA CAMPSITES ON THIS ROUTE HAVE WIFI.
