Tangled Nation, an artcrawl

Sat Feb 4, 11:00 - Sat Feb 4, 13:00

Iziko South African National Gallery

ABOUT

In her next #artcrawl art critic, commentator and curator, Mary Corrigall will investigate how textile design and production have influenced a generation of artists. Artists are now self-consciously immersing themselves in labour intensive craft practices, challenging politically minded conceptualism, gender stereotypes and the so-called identity-art of the early post-apartheid era.

This exclusive, intimate, curated ‘art-crawl’ centres on the Women’s Work exhibition currently on at the Iziko South African National Gallery (Sang).

After an introduction into how and why photographic based identity-driven art gave way to textile inspired expression, this artist-centric crawl will include discussions with the artists Barend de WetTamlin Blake and Siwa Mgoboza.  The art of Lawrence Lemaoana, Nicholas Hlobo, Pierre Fouche and Athi-Patra Ruga will come under focus in an accessible, informative and educating #artcrawl.

Aspiring art collectors, art lovers, or new visitors to the city are all encouraged to join.

To keep the crawl intimate no more than 15 people will be accommodated, so book promptly in advance.
