Who is THE ROCKETTZ NEW GENERATION??

Do you remember The Rockets, one of South Africa’s most prolific bands reigning from 1968 to the 2020’s?

With the tragic passing of the late Jerry Watt, the members of The Rockets, who performed with Jerry until his last appearance in public, rebranded and are now popularly known as The Rockettz New Generation. The band is on the cusp of a new, exciting era, a new horizon … a new dawn with Manuel Losper, one of S.A.’s finest male vocalists, at the helm. Manuel performed with the legendary Rockets for 8 years in total and penned the Afrikaans hit, “Ek is Lief vir Jou”, that enjoyed airplay on RSG. Manuel also recorded 2 albums and a live DVD with The Rockets and performed abroad in Israel with the band on a few occasions. What a highlight and historic moment it was for The Rockets to share the stage with the one and only Dr Victor and the Rasta Rebels at Grand West in November last year during the One Vision concert!

The talented Manuel Losper embarked on his music career at a young age, initially playing piano in church and later joining the gospel band, Kunjalo, as their lead vocalist and songwriter for 6 years. Kunjalo expanded their international experience, travelling to London, Spain, Scotland and the USA, where their live show was televised and screened throughout the USA. Manuel’s vocal prowess opened doors for him with the honour of performing with Grammy-award-winner, Hezekiah Hawker, in S.A. and in the USA from 2004 – 2010, apart from doing recordings with American artist, Jimmy Earl Perry.

After Manuel’s musical journey with Kunjalo ended, he joined the iconic Rockets initially for 4 years as their bassist and one of their lead vocalists, but the yearning to have his own band was only satisfied after leaving The Rockets and it was in 2016 when Manuel was leading his band Soulful Sounds to fame, that he captured the attention of the South African public on national television, impressing and enthralling with his soulful voice on “Noot vir Noot” and “Musiek Roulette”.

Manuel’s vision for The Rockettz New Generation is to lead the band to new heights, becoming a leading, sought-after band in S.A., while maintaining a synergy of old and new … still performing old school R & B hits, Pop, Rock, Dance, Ballads, Rock ‘n Roll, Latino, Reggae and South African, but also introducing what is current and trending.

The Rockettz New Generation performed on Expresso on 12 September and performed their first new single, “Believe in Love Again”, written by Manuel Losper. Shortly after the release of this beautiful ballad, the second single, “I’m in Love”, a collaboration with Dr Victor, was released. The release of these 2 new single has undoubtedly given the band new impetus and raised the profile of the band.

Certainly, The Rockets hold a significant place in South Africa's music history, spanning from 1968 to the 2020s. The recent rebranding as The Rockettz New Generation, following the unfortunate passing of Jerry Watt, marks the beginning of an exciting new era for the band. At the forefront is Manuel Losper, a distinguished South African vocalist who spent eight years with the legendary Rockets, contributing to hits such as "Ek is Lief vir Jou."

Manuel's musical journey began at a young age, initially playing piano in church before becoming the lead vocalist and songwriter for the gospel band Kunjalo, which garnered international acclaim with performances in London, Spain, Scotland, and the USA. Manuel's vocal talent also led him to collaborate with Grammy-award-winner Hezekiah Hawker and American artist Jimmy Earl Perry.

After a stint as the bassist and lead vocalist for the Rockets, Manuel pursued his vision with his band, Soulful Sounds, gaining recognition on national television shows like "Noot vir Noot" and "Musiek Roulette."

Now at the helm of The Rockettz New Generation, Manuel aims to elevate the band's status, blending the old and the new. The band continues to captivate audiences with a diverse repertoire, including R&B hits, Pop, Rock, Dance, Ballads, Rock 'n Roll, Latino, Reggae, and South African music. Their recent performances, including the debut of the single "Believe in Love Again" and the collaboration with Dr. Victor on "I'm in Love," have injected new energy into the band, promising an exciting future and an enduring legacy in South African music.
