Who Are We? - Musical Production

Who are we?

This musical theatre production is mostly based in Sydenham, South Africa. Who Are We? highlights the effects and influence that South African historical events had, and have, on the life experiences of the Coloured people in Sydenham. The historical events include, the colonisation era, forced removals and apartheid.

The main character of the production is named Loretta, she is the narrator, and the story unfolds through the lens of her life.

The main act/scene emphasises the harm that drugs cause within the community. It also establishes how a family has been separated due to a continued mindset that was instilled during segregation, some generations back. In conclusion Who Are We? is an invitation for individual introspection in search of identity. It includes themes of reconciliation between family members, as well as unity and peace amongst the community of Sydenham.
