Celebrating 5 years of Selective Live with AKUVI (Norway) and Jambo Naphula

Beatrice Akuvi Hosen Kumordzie , also known by the stage name Akuvi , is a Norwegian singer and songwriter .

Neo-soul meets Afrobeats and hip hop through soulful vocals and honest lyrics. Akuvi is an artist, songwriter and voice over talent with roots in the Volta Region in Ghana and northern parts of Norway. Akuvi is known for being a finalist in Norwegian pre-selection to Eurovision and for being the the Norwegian voice behind animation characters like Dolores in Disney's Oscar winning "Encanto" and Karma in Ludacris' Netflix series "Karma's World». She is currently working on her next album, whereby the first single from the project «The Other Side» is listed across several radio stations in Norway.

She comes from a music family, where artistic expression through song, dance and art has always been a natural part of life. Her sister, Anna-Lisa Kumoji, and her father, Kofi Kumoji, are both artists. Inspired by the sound of Burna Boy, Jorjah Smith and Lauryn Hill, Akuvi's musical expression is explorative and new. Her creative journey has been about finding strength in vulnerability by transforming emotional diary pages into honest, soulful and fierce music, mirroring the experience of being a young hopeless romantic trapped in a tinder-dominated world.

Akuvi was one of the finalists in Melodi Grand Prix 2020 in Trondheim , with the song "Som du er".  Her song did not progress to the "gold final", which consisted of four of the eight finalists.  "Som du er" was the only song in the final that was written in Norwegian. 

In 2023, she participated again in Melodi Grand Prix , with the song "Triumph". She made it to the semi-final 3 on the 28 January 2023.

Jambo Naphula is a traveling showman, artist, singer songwriter, creator, rapper, comedian, improv actor, etc. He can have many titles but he describes himself in a very simple way “A silly guy that makes music and art to uplift the people”. 

Jambo Naphula has two main focuses. 

• His music around the world. He travels and collaborates with artists wherever he goes, mixing his style with that of the local artist. His music videos show the lifestyle and sceneries of those countries he travels to so the spectator can travel with his music and videos. Something no other has ever done.
• His live loopstation shows. A perfect blend of improvised music and comedy. He makes songs on the spot with his loopstation, using beatbox, singing, rapping, and a lot of creativity. And the best moments are when he includes other artists, musicians in his performances. Which is when the audience fly to a different world.

This year he has released his EP ‘The Human That Decided To Be Free’. A 4 track EP recorded in Cape Town, South Africa, with some of the best musicians in town, such as Nobuhle Ashanti and Shaw Komori. A mixture of styles that goes from hip hop, soul, African to the Capetonian jazz, but also with an easy going uplifting sound. With a message of positivity and good vibes as its main focus.
