PRACTICE WALK 4 - GROTTO BEACH - CLIFF PATH - NEW HARBOUR
Anyone can participate in the practice walks - family and friends | male or female | fit children or fit adults. Proceeds from these walks will be used by Lighthouse 2 Lighthouse Ladies to support duly elected charities in the Overstrand.
WALK | CONNECT | PREPARE
The routes are chosen for the practice walks to help registered Lighthouse 2 Lighthouse Ladies prepare for the Official 4-day 100km Walk. The Official Walk of 14 - 17 March 2024 is aimed at raising funds for Overstrand Hospice and the secondary beneficiaries of KAWS (Kleinmond Animal Wellfare) and Huis Lettie Theron.
{The Route was originally planned to walk towards Sopies Klip, but with the lagoon being open, this will not be possible at present.}
- Route: We start at Grotto Beach (Ablution Block), walk through Piet se Bos, walk on the beach, fom the Lagoon back to Dutchies to start on the Coastal/Cliff path towards the New Harbour.
We have three unique Hop-On/Hop-Off options for this walk:
6km: Walk to Langbaai and back to Grotto //
12km: Walk to Amphitheatre and back to Grotto {Two rest Stops for the 12km - Amphitheatre (7-8km from Start) and Siever's Point (3km to Dutchies)} //
20km: Walk to New Harbour and back. {Three Rest Stops for the 20km - Amphitheatre (7-8km from Start) to New Harbour (10-11km from Start) and Siever's Point (3km to Dutchies)}
- Distances: 6km / 12km / 20km
- Duration: approx.6-7 hours
- Terrain: Fynbos paths through Piet se Bos, Beach Sand on Grotto and the rest will be Cliff paths
- Rest stops: 2/3 Rest Stops on the route (depending on the distance you walk) - Bring drinks and snacks.
- Meeting point: Grotto Beach Ablution Blocks & Parking
- Registration Time: 06:30 – 06:50
- Starting Time: 07:00 to +/-14:00 - End
A few things to remember:
- Be a sport and wear something creative/Xmasy to spread the Xmas-cheer!!!! ?????
- Ensure you are protected against sunburn
- Wear your comfortable hiking shoes - gaiters are recommended (protects against sand in shoes)
- In your backpack you can also bring a rain jacket / poncho / small first aid kit / sun hat / costume / small towel / toilet paper or tissues / bags for rubbish
- Practise with a 'loaded' backpack - as you will be wearing it for 4 days for 100km

In the 2023/24 L2L-Season we are walking to raise funds for Overstrand Hospice, our main beneficiary - as well as Huis Lettie Theron and KAWS.
We have raised over R7,5million since 2006 for more than 30 charities in the Overstrand.
The registered Lighthouse 2 Lighthouse ladies that walked in 2023 were able to raise funds for the main beneficiary IZIBUSIZO of more than R700 000.00
An additional +/-R 110 500 was also donated to the 13 different charities that applied to be the main Beneficiary - including 1. Panthera Africa, 2. Pebbles Project, 3. JustCare,
4. Kleinmond Animal Welfare Society, 5. Hermanus Animal Welfare Society, 6.The Light of the Cross Ministries (LOCM)/ Hermanus Christian Academy, 7. Waldorf School Hermanus, 8. Hawston Health & Welfare organisation, 9. Huis Lettie Theron, 10. Grootbos Foundation, 11. FynArts, 12. Handevat Music & 13.Creative Skills Factory
Money cannot be raised without the support of our walkers – albeit the registered Lighthouse 2 Lighthouse Ladies or family or friends or community members. Your small contribution will make a big difference to the communities impacted by the charities we support in the Overstrand.
