Soprano Carmen Micic will be performing a selection of moving love songs. Accompanied by David Butlin.

Concert is family friendly, approximately 1 hour in duration. Not recommended for children under 10 years of age.

Introduction to our Soprano

Born and raised in the East Rand of Johannesburg, Carmen Micic had the sweet fortune to spend her formative high school years in the beautiful seaside town of Knysna, Western Cape. 

Inspired by her surroundings and exposure to many classical music instruments, Carmen chose to pursue a career in music. 

She attained her Bachelors in Music at the University of Witwatersrand, initially trained as a mezzo-soprano. At the start of chasing the dream of post graduate studies, Carmen uncovered further range in her voice and thus began an arduous journey for an entirely new repertoire as a Soprano. Her dedication to her craft paid off with an invitation to complete her Masters in Opera in Leipzig, Germany. 

In June of 2023, Carmen wowed audiences with her first title role as Füchsin in a Leoš Janácek production of “The Cunning Little Vixen”

Currently, Carmen resides in Berlin with her two dogs and fiancé. She frequents South Africa to visit family and perform as a freelance singer. 

Accompanist David Butlin

David Butlin is no stranger to the wonderful ways of the beautiful Garden Route. Born in the small dorp Knysna, and growing up in the smaller seaside town of Plettenberg Bay, David has always had a passion for music. 

Chasing this passion, David studied voice and piano at the University of Cape Town and furthered these studies at the Manhattan School of Music (MSM) in the city that never sleeps, New York City. 

Thoroughly entertained by the notion of city living, David became répétiteur for the MSM vocal department. It wasn’t long before an opportunity to work in the Cape Town Opera presented itself and David began important work as a vocal coach and accompanist in the company. 

Sought after in Cape Town for his plentiful skills for singing, instrumental and vocal accompanying, David also immersed himself in choral conducting during a tenure in the city of Cape Town. 

Presently, David is back home in the glorious Garden Route. David teaches privately and in schools around the area, continuing to spread the gift and joy of music.
