ABOUT
Mapumba
His sound is a blend of afro folk, afro soul, and organic dance music, rooted in many global influences.
He sings in kiSwahili, English and French with a few songs in other languages. He’s based in Cape Town and was born in Kolwezi in the southern region of DR Congo.
Making music is Mapumba’s wellbeing practice. Performing and recording is his way of sharing that grounding with the world.
He has toured locally and globally with various projects, and has shared the stage with a number of music legends.
Galo
Inspired by the melodic driving beats of Latin & Afro house, Gàlo’s first appreciation for the fusing of these musical through lines and motifs developed as a Capoeirista, experiencing the embodiment and exchange of embodied musicality and ritual rhythms.
Gàlo plays to explore, motivate and ignite the adventure of dance with soundscapes characterised by the crisp uplifting tones, melodic vigor & rhythmic lyrics from Latin & Afro House pioneers.
Mapumba and Gàlo
Mapumba and Galo connected over music and festivity several years back. They’ve collaborated on many events, however, never musically.
On the day after The Day of the Dead, and in close proxy to Halloween city-wide parties, they are delighted to present a night dedicated to the Living - an interweaving of sounds and realisations from across the continent in conversation with Afro Brazilian and Latin house echoes across the Atlantic.
Selective Live invites you to an evening of joy and driving beats for stories in song and a groovy Latin house encore.
