ABOUT

Just of the back of the launch of his latest album "For The Boys I Like," Muneyi will be joined by friends Thesis ZA, Leomile and his resident acoustic band to perform three concerts at Andticks on the 20th October, 3rd November and 17th November.

Muneyi, a multifaceted artist, songwriter, composer, and guitarist, weaves a musical tapestry that effortlessly blends Tshivenda folktales with modern sounds, described by many as a divine gift and a healing experience. His music is inspired by his grandmother, community upbringing, love for language, vulnerability, and personal experiences, and although he sings in his language of Tshivenda, his music transcends language barriers, reaching deep into the heart and soul of the listener.

Thesis ZA comprises creative writer Ayanda Charlie and the multiple talents of saxophonist, keyboardist and composer Ondela Simakuhle. The duo was formed in 2013 after the disbandment of the Cleffhangers, a group that was assembled for a once-off performance in the Mother City. Their most recent album Sondela displays the duo’s classical training, arrangement that accentuates classical and African instrumentation, and lyrics with rich cultural references and Xhosa expressions. You’ll be hard pressed to resist goosebumps listening to these extraordinary talents.

Leomile’s music weaves a captivating tapestry of Sesotho and English. Her evocative lyrics muse on profound themes of identity, love, and womanhood. The name "Leomile," traditionally associated with rainmakers, carries a deeply symbolic meaning, signifying "One who brings restoration." In embodying this message, she uses music as a form of orature, a medium that restores the memory of our past and inspires our potential future. Leomile's music unearths and delicately exposes the often overlooked aspects of African life and humanity, weaving golden threads of honesty, idealism, and hope throughout her songs. She passionately believes in the healing power of music, a modality that calls us back to the core essence of our being. Leomile's unique artistic fusion incorporates traditional African folk music, neo-soul, elements of jazz, and touches of alternative and electronic sounds. Her eclectic inspiration springs from a diverse array of musical greats, academia and literature, notably from works like Octavia Butler's Parable series, Ngugi Wa Thiong'o's writings, and the rich tapestry of Basotho folklore. Leomile's artistry not only resonates with listeners but serves as a powerful catalyst for exploring and celebrating the rich tapestry of African culture and heritage.
