Africawide Chess Championship 2023
Africawide is hosting a FIDE-rated chess tournament.
The competition categories will be:
PRESTIGE section:
- Cap of Entries: 34 players
- Entry Fee: R500 per player
- Sign up for: Players with 1800 and above FIDE rating
- Time Control: 60/60 minutes + 30 seconds increment from move 1
- 7 Rounds Swiss
OPEN section:
- Cap of Entries: 70 players
- Entry Fee: R300 per player
- Sign up for: Players with less than 1800 FIDE rating
- Time Control: 60/60 minutes + 30 seconds increment from move 1
- 7 Rounds Swiss
DEVELOPMENT section A:
- Cap of Entries: 34 players
- Entry Fee: R200 per player
- Sign up for: Players under ages of 10 (under 10's and under 8's)
- Time Control: 30/30 minutes without increment
- 5 Rounds Swiss
DEVELOPMENT section B:
- Cap of Entries: 34 players
- Entry Fee: R250 per player
- Sign up for: Players between ages 11 and 15 years old
- Time Control: 30/30 minutes without increment
- 5 Rounds Swiss

- 1st Place: R3,000 cash prize

Food stall will be available to purchase savoury snacks, lite sandwiches, and beverages.
We encourage card and online payments, to limit cash on premises.
75 Parking Bays available on premises. Parking also available at Killarney Mall (around the corner).
Players in the DEVELOPMENT SECTIONS to bring a form of Identification or copy (ID, Passport, Driver's Licence) and arrive 15 minutes before start on tournament days for pre-checks.

Rules and Regulations
1. All sections shall be played under the latest FIDE Laws of chess.
2. The default time (walkovers) is 15 minutes for all sections.
3. Tiebreaks order for all sections:
i. Buchholz Cut 1
ii. Sonneborne-Berger
iii. More wins with black
4. Prize money will be shared equally by players with the same number of points. All prizes paid via EFT
5. Recording of moves is compulsory up to the last move for players in the Prestige, Open and Ladies sections.
6. An appeal against the Arbiter’s decision must be submitted in writing within 15 minutes after the end of the
round, with a R500 fee.
An Appeals Committee shall be setup and will be chaired by the Chief Organiser and
have at least one member from the players. The fee is refundable if the appeal is successful.
