Ross Learmonth, vocalist, musician and lyricist best known as the lead singer of South African rock royalty, Prime Circle, has now ventured into a solo career redefining his sound, an intentional departure from the heavy rock sounds that fans are used to associating his iconic voice with. Learmonth surprised fans in 2022 by releasing his first two debut singles ‘Wild’ and ‘Screaming’ ahead of the much-anticipated release of his debut album. The past three years have seen Ross curate a variety of tours including the ‘Bare Bones’ and ‘Storytelling’ acoustic shows which have evolved into his latest ‘Wild Summer Tour’ which saw him showcase his talents as a frontman and artist, with these electric upbeat shows across South Africa.
Ross starts the year off this year by releasing his next single 'Young' on 24 February 2023, followed by 'Rose-tinted’ on 17th March 2023 and shortly followed by the entire album, Carousel, dropping on March 31st.
Ross gives us some insight to what this album means to him, “The album Carousel is a journey of living in the moment, realizing one’s faults in relationships and moving past previous bounds and escaping into the unknown. Allowing oneself to break free and let the cards fall where they may. There is a romance in the unknown and allowing yourself to get caught up in it.” he says.
Key tracks to listen out for on the album that capture the true essence of ‘Carousel’ are Young, Rose-tinted, Everything and the album’s title track ‘Carousel’. Pulling influences from all corners of Learmonth’s musical taste, you can pick up on some nods to the likes of Sia, Keane, Cold Play, The Strokes, Brandon Flowers and Harry Styles.
Learmonth has spent the past two decades breaking international boundaries with Prime Circle. From their first single, 'Hello', dropping in 2003 merely two years from the band being founded and rocketing to the top of the charts countrywide, since then the band has seen over 10 singles climb to the top of the charts across South African and German radio stations.
