BACKGROUND

After the successful 2016 BEAR Rally, the Orgnaisers wish to continue to celebrate the history and development of motorcycles in the ‘West’.

BEAR is the acronym for British, European, American Racing. BEAR was first formed by the late great John Britten and friends in Christchurch, New Zealand in the early 1980's. This group of enthusiastic motorcycle riders did not fit the social or racing classes available at the time, on their Triumphs, Norton’s & BSA's. The BEAR movement grew rapidly, appealing to all Non-Japanese motorcycle riders.

Nowadays the BEAR group offers a much broader range of motorcycles, with expensive Italian makes such as Ducati, Aprilia, Moto Guzzi, MV Agusta as well as the other mainstream brands KTM, BMW and the classic Harley Davidson. We believe that there is a strong interest in these brands in the Western Cape, including a massive resurgence of motorcyclists choosing off-road and touring bikes to ride because of the adventure lifestyle.
