ABOUT

The St David’s Marist Inanda PTA is delighted to announce the launch of its first tuition fee lottery. Fundraising is one of the many roles of the PTA, and it allows St David's Marist Inanda to maintain its current facilities but also to provide support for the continued advancement of the institution. All funds raised from the lottery are for the benefit of the school, and will be used for school initiatives decided by the PTA in consultation with the School Executive Team. 

Only 1,000 lottery tickets will be available for sale, at a cost of R500 per ticket. Anyone (except the Lottery Manager) can enter, and there is no limit to how many lottery tickets anyone may purchase of the 1,000 lottery tickets available for sale. 

Ticketholders will stand a chance of winning one of the following five fabulous prizes:

1st Prize: R75,000 towards the tuition fees of a learner enrolled at any registered educational institution in South Africa in 2024

2nd Prize: R15,000 towards the tuition fees of a learner enrolled at any registered educational institution in South Africa in 2024

3rd Prize: R10,000 towards the tuition fees of a learner enrolled at any registered educational institution in South Africa in 2024

4th Prize: R5,000 towards the tuition fees of a learner enrolled at any registered educational institution in South Africa in 2024

5th Prize: A free coffee from SPILL (St David’s Coffee shop) every day during the 2024 academic year

Ticket sales open on 3 October 2023 and close on 30 November 2023 with the live draw taking place on Friday 1 December 2023 in the Champagnat Hall. The winners’ names will be announced at the draw, and on social media.


Lottery Rules

The St David’s Marist Inanda PTA is selling 1,000 tickets for R500 each for a chance to win one of the 5 incredible prizes listed above. Tickets are available for purchase between 3 October 2023 and 30 November 2023. There is no limit on how many tickets any person may purchase, subject only to the limitation of a maximum of 1,000 tickets being available for sale.

The prize winners will be drawn at the school’s final assembly on Friday 1 December 2023 in the Champagnat Hall at St David’s Marist Inanda. The draw will be verified by an independent third party. The school will contact the winners by the same day via email / phone call, and the winners will also be announced on the school’s social media platforms.

If you are a winner of prizes 1-4:

·      Your prize will be applied by St David's Marist Inanda directly towards the 2024 tuition fees of any learner (from Grade 00 to tertiary level) of your choice enrolled at any registered educational institution in South Africa in 2024.

·      In order to claim your prize, you must email a copy of the tax invoice or statement from the applicable educational institution in respect of the 2024 tuition fees of your selected leaner to the Lottery Manager, Joe Kotwal, at [email protected], by no later than 31 March 2024. Such tax invoice or statement must clearly reflect the banking details of such educational institution and the 2024 tuition fees of your selected learner.

·      Within 30 days of receipt of the aforesaid tax invoice or statement, St David's Marist Inanda will pay to or credit (if the tax invoice is from St David's Marist Inanda) the 2024 tuition fees reflected on that tax invoice or statement, up to the value of your prize, directly to/with the educational institution reflected on the applicable tax invoice or statement. 

If you are a winner of prize 5, you will be entitled to receive one coffee of your choice, free of charge, from SPILL (St David’s Marist Inanda coffee shop) on each day during 2024 that SPILL is open for business. This will exclude school and other public holidays.

Save for the Lottery Manager, who is not eligible to participate, there are no limitations or exclusions as to who is eligible to purchase tickets and participate in the lottery. Anyone (except the Lottery Manager) may, at their discretion, participate in the lotter, including the staff, administrators, volunteers, supporters, old boys, current and past parents, family and parents of children at St David's Marist Inanda and/or at any other educational institution in South Africa. Tickets will be sold on a first come, first served basis. 


Lottery Terms and conditions



  1. All personal information gathered as a result of this lottery will not be provided to any third party, except as required by law or as permitted in 13 below.
  2. The prizes will be awarded on 1 December 2023. 
  3. Prize winner(s) need not be present at the draw to win.
  4. Prizes 1-4 must be claimed in the manner described above. Any prize not claimed in this manner by 31 March 2024 will be forfeited.
  5. The prizes are not redeemable for cash.
  6. A winning ticket, once drawn, will not be eligible for participation in the draw for any further prizes.
  7. St David’s Marist Inanda shall in NO circumstances be liable for any damages or loss (including, without limitation, any special or consequential damages) sustained or incurred by any person arising from or in connection with or as a result of the use, ownership, application, receipt or otherwise of any of the prizes and/or the prizes not being claimed in the prescribed manner. Participants hereby unconditionally and irrevocably release St David’s Marist Inanda from any and all claims arising therefrom.
  8. If fewer than 400 tickets are sold, St David’s Marist Inanda reserves the right to reduce the value of the prizes, or to cancel the lottery, in its sole and absolute discretion.
  9. All sales of lottery tickets are final, and there will be NO refunds of tickets purchased, except if St David's Marist Inanda cancels the lottery as a result of fewer than 400 tickets being sold.
  10. The judge’s decision on the winners of the prizes is final and binding, and no correspondence shall be entered into.
  11. The odds of winning any of the lottery prizes depends upon the number of tickets sold, however, a maximum of 1,000 tickets will be sold.
  12. SARS states that the amount paid for chances in raffles, lotteries or similar drawings for valuable prizes are not gifts, and consequently do not qualify as deductible charitable contributions.
  13. The prize winners agree to allow St David’s Marist Inanda the right to use their name and/or likeness for promotional purposes without further compensation. The prize winners may be required to complete a statement of eligibility, release of liability and publicity release. Failure to do so will render a prize winner ineligible to receive their prize.
