Adasa NPC Mpumalanga Wellness & Dementia Awareness Day
Sat Nov 4, 06:15 - Sat Nov 4, 17:00
Friend's Cafe Mbombela
ADASA (Association for Dementia and Alzheimer's of South Africa) NPC Mpumalanga, formerly known as Alzheimer’s SA NPC, is hosting a Wellness event on September 30th, 2023, at Friend’s Café Mbombela.
We are excited to announce our upcoming Wellness & Dementia Awareness day, a meaningful event that promotes well-being and raises awareness about dementia- and related illnesses.
Dementia is an overarching term for various brain disorders and their associated symptoms, characterized by their chronic and progressive nature, leading to cognitive decline. Most dementias aren’t curable but manageable with certain medications and strategies and preventable to a certain extent. Dementia is not exclusive to old people. While it is more commonly associated with older age, mainly due to conditions like Alzheimer's, it can affect individuals of varying ages.
There are forms of dementia, like early-onset Alzheimer's, that can begin in individuals as young as their 30s or 40s. Additionally, certain medical conditions, injuries, and genetic factors can lead to dementia in younger people as well. However, the risk of developing dementia does increase with age.
September is internationally known as World Alzheimer’s Month. This event is strategically designed to spotlight Alzheimer’s and other dementia-related conditions and emphasize preventative measures against dementia – such as exercise and other components of a healthy lifestyle.
