ABOUT
You've been asking for more advanced workshops, and we've heard you!
Description
Suspension Club is a biweekly upskilling series for those who have attended our beginner course and would like to level up their rope skills in a collaborative environment. Led by @rope.fu and referencing content from Shibari Study and Gestalta’s Shibari Suspensions, this format will give you the best of both worlds: in-person guidance and the ability to practice outside of class by referencing popular materials.
Please note you are participating in this skill-sharing environment at your own risk. Embodiment Rope Space and its volunteers are not liable for any injuries incurred. In each session, we will discuss the risks involved with suspension and the harnesses involved, but ultimately it is your responsibility to ensure your own safety. We will only allow you to perform full suspensions with spotting in our space if your harness construction and upline management are satisfactory.
Lexi Harness
We're excited to have @rope.fu walk you through tying Gorgone's Lexi Harness! In this session, we'll cover this harness which starts with the arms tied to the front. As taken from Shibari Study, the Lexi Harness has the following attributes which make it a great tool to have in your suspension arsenal:
- This harness is very supportive and ideal for dynamic suspension and transition as it provides multiple points of attachment and can sustain a lot of stress without losing its structure.
- The pattern is fairly complex but is well worth spending time mastering and incorporating into your toolbox as it is a lot safer and more accessible to different body types than a classic box tie or TK.
- Complexity aside, it has the ability to sustain a lot of stress without losing its structure makes it well worth spending the time to master it, especially if you're looking to practice dynamic transitions.

Pre-requisites
- Both top and bottom need to have attended our Bondage Basics course (run every two months on a Saturday), or have received equivalent private tuition from Astrid, Kay, rope.fu, or an international educator that we recognize. If you are unsure, get in touch. Our next workshop is at the end of July.
- At least four 8m long 6mm thick Jute ropes or other suspendable ropes per pair for sessions 1-6. The patterns we are covering are engineered for jute, so other suspendable ropes are to be used at your own risk. We will not permit suspension from cotton sash cord. Sessions 7-9 will require an additional 3 ropes per pair. Class rope can be used to supplement your own rope set but should not be your primary rope for this series.
- Safety sheers or a safety hook per rigger.
- Unfortunately, due to limited time and capacity, switching will not be facilitated for the duration of this course and pairs will be expected to stick to a role (top or bottom).
FAQ
What is Shibari/Kinbaku/Bondage?
The art of binding the body of a consenting adult.
Is rope always sexual?
Rope has many benefits and practitioners outside of the sexual paradigm. For some, it is about pushing their bodies not unlike engaging in strenuous exercise or extreme sports. For some, it is a way to reclaim their agency after trauma. For some, it is a way to experience a connection with others without the scripts and expectations associated with genital contact. As long as what you are doing is consensual and intentional, we consider it healthy and valid.
What should I wear?
This is a friendly learning environment, not a sexual one, so crotches are to remain covered. Other than that, you are free to wear whatever you like. We find that it is easier to tie with minimal clothing or clothing that you can move in easily (leggings, shorts, etc).
