ABOUT

Journey...

The journey of The Red Telephone... ?

Who said Daytime jolling is only for summer?!

On the 6th of July we will again be departing on our Journey, an odyssey through the realms of Electronic Music, opening eyes to what lies next.

We will be taking you far away from the convention of listening to a certain genre and break into a world where there are no boundaries.

In this instalment of Journey we are taking it a step further and bringing you sweet acoustic caressing by Paul Melis to start off the day followed by Electro Swing and Balkan by BamBeano bringing us into the Deep with beats from the likes of Kanan K7 and Diggin4Dodge. A little techno is on the cards afterwards dealt to us by Khoza Culture with a Debut Live Minimal set from ALXNDR. Up next Barney brings us another taste of Tech before some Psytech from the deadly Deadbeat FM with our journey sadly being brought to a close by the distinctive progressive sound of Gokon Rave.

Our day has been crafted for pure musical pleasure and pure pleasure is what shall be had!

We urge everyone to arrive early so as to experience the magic we are trying to create :)

Paul Melis

Live acoustic - Bio coming soon ;)

BamBeano

A bearded blur, bouncing relentlessly behind the decks. Hyped up on bass and a worrying blood-taurine ratio, this monkey-brandishing bass-bandit brings a much needed child-like energy to any gathering where Nu-world, Swing or Balkan beats are being blasted.

A forerunner in Cape Town’s nascent musical and cultural Swing revolution, Bambeano has been sneaking sonic glimpses of electro-swing into his weekly residential sets.

Endemic to the dance-floors of Cape Town’s eclectic outdoor parties, Bambeano made his debut as an outdoor Swing DJ during Earthdance 2012. Easily recognizable by his unkempt facial hair, his up-beat and extremely danceable tunes, and his trans-gender sexual-degenerate of a monkey (Sharon), Bambeano is set to take Cape Town’s outdoor music scene by storm.

So shine your dancing shoes, polish up on your Lindy-Hop, and stock up on contraceptives and pepper spray (Sharon…), because the good times are just getting started!

? ? ? ? ? ? ? ? ? ? ? ? ? ? ? ? ? ? ? ? ? ? ? ?

Kanan K7

Having grown up surrounded by a family of professional musicians, Thiago naturally gravitated towards music from a very young age.

While travelling in the USA in 1997, the Brazilian was introduced to Electronic music for the first time. In 1998, while wrestling with the heavy- and vast amount of- equipment of his Hard Core/Punk Rock band, promoted his first event broadcasting Breaks/Electro to an audience of 50 people.

After redefining his style of music, Thiago finally began playing in decent night clubs, with high-end sound systems in London in 2002, as opposed to smaller, private parties aswell as underground warehouse squat parties.

In the blink of an eye ‘Kanan K7’ found himself involved in the major British club scene, playing alongside highly respected artists at main venues and festivals such as: The Coronet, Brixton Academy, The Mass, Meduza, SEone, The Fridge and Alexandra Palace, as well as hundreds of Squat Parties (London’s Underground Dance Scene).

Throughout the years ‘Kanan K7’ has established a reputation for his solid, unique and cutting-edge DJ sets which, combined with his sharp mixing ability, has taken ‘Kanan K7’ to venues around the globe, including: The UK, Spain, Denmark, Sweden, Wales, Germany, Brazil, The Sahara Desert, Holland and South Africa.

? ? ? ? ? ? ? ? ? ? ? ? ? ? ? ? ? ? ? ? ? ? ? ?

Diggin4Dodge

Diggin4Dodge had humble beginnings on the Joburg electronic music scene, where the duo energetically supported events. David Dix and Clinton Dodgen have been swiftly embraced as one's to watch, with a refined soundscape that commits to the deeper side of Tech House, whilst being inherently futuristic and distinctive. The music journey continues in Mount City, where their moody magnetism is captivating hearts and feet all over town.

? ? ? ? ? ? ? ? ? ? ? ? ? ? ? ? ? ? ? ? ? ? ? ?

Khoza Culture

Influenced by festival Dance-floors and online communities like Resident Advisor, Fact Magazine and XLR8R, Khoza Culture is constantly absorbing and tweaking his sound. Artist influences include Matthew Dear, Solee, SiS, Scuba, Seth Troxler, Rodriguez Jr. and Magda among many others.

? ? ? ? ? ? ? ? ? ? ? ? ? ? ? ? ? ? ? ? ? ? ? ?

ALXNDR

Boom kid, beat-breaker, remixer and producer <ALXNDR> makes moody Minimal and electro noir for hot nights in the neon city; a sonic gateway drug to something speedier. An analogue sound for the digital age, <ALXNDR> has a classical background in music, uses a synthesizer and records live instruments. The 22-year-old has been making EDM for 5 years. On an alter-tempo, he also spins trance tracks under monikers, Risky Business and Disco Volante. The first to hear his beats are his bass-fiend cats, Duncan and Moose. He's a Pisces.

Barney

Min-Tech -Bio coming soon ;)

? ? ? ? ? ? ? ? ? ? ? ? ? ? ? ? ? ? ? ? ? ? ? ?

Deadbeat FM

The Deadbeat FM DJ/Producer duo is dedicated to bringing a vulgar new sound to the tech scene. They are the unholy union of notorious psy-trance producer, Deliriant (Shane), with a multitude of international gigs and releases under his belt, and Johnny Rook (Piers), the shady breaks peddler from the seediest bars downtown.

The Deadbeat FM sound is not tied down by genre, but delves mostly into the grimy underworld of minimal and tech house; making use of dirty bass lines, fat kicks and huge drums & percussion, often with a driving yet minimalist undertone.

Recently placing third in a D-Nox & Beckers remix competition, the Joburg based duo is making waves internationally, and their tracks are well received on dancefloors across the globe.

As of late, Deadbeat FM are influenced by the crossover sounds dominated by the likes of Lish, Magitman, D-Nox & Beckers, Wehbba, Perfect Stranger, Khainz, Miki Litvak and so many more.

If you haven't yet had the guilty pleasure of vibrating to the Deadbeat FM airwaves, be sure to stay tuned.

Keep it deadly.

Gokon Rave

Two of South Africa's pioneering underground DJ's and producers who have been pushing boundaries in the scene, combine their talent and experience to lead you into the next generation of sounds that can only be described as a fusion of Psy Trance, Minimal Techno and Progressive.

The word Gokon was a combination of (Rob) GOnzo & EmoutiKON.
Later, we discover it also comes from the Japanese words 'konpa' - a shin dig or get together for group members - and 'godo' - together, or connected. Some references state that compa (as opposed to kompa) comes from the English word, "companion".

Encompassing passion and energy into their productions and live performances using MIDI controllers to overlay loops and samples to create unique experiences every time, this is one performance that fans can attest you should not miss out.

Having played at many South African outdoor festivals such as Earthdance, Equinox, Zone, Groovy Troopers, Rezonance NYE, Origin and Jungala, this duo is now set on sharing their sound internationally on the dancefloors and in the charts with their forthcoming releases.

It promotes responsible partying and aims to develop self awareness and respect.
At Crystallation we try to nurture a positive attitude and hold a sacred space where ideas are shared and visions are spread. It is an active participation area where everyone is invited to lead by example and be the change they want to see.
There is a crystal altar with crystals from all over the world that one can hold and feel while receiving information and guidance about how to incorporate stones in everyday life in a user friendly manner. It is a space to leave cooler boxes , jerseys, broken shoes and tired friends secure and looked after as well as a platform where to observe the party from.
Most of all, the chill out allows us to put something into the party in order to be more able to take something from it. Crystallation gives a sense of tribal belonging and family that greatly enhances the general party experience.

WINTER KARMA...
So as you all know the winter months are upon us. So we were thinking while you all keeping warm and well feed, we can help those out that are less fortunate and in need of some warm clothes and full bellies.

So Winter Karma initiative was launched by Kirsty Webster!!

Due to the great amount of interest she decided to team up with The Red Telephone on this project. ?

At the beginning of June we will put together little hampers that will be handed out around the CBD containing warming things donated by you.

Please feel free to donate any clothes (shoes, beanies, socks, jackets, etc), blankets and tinned food (ones that don't need to be opened with a tin opener), that might just throw a curve ball into the mix of things, lol.

All donations can be given to Kirsty Webster, Caleigh Louw or even dropped off at The Edge (247 Bree Street) with the security.

The closing date for the drop offs will be on 8 June at The Train Lodge in Cape Town at Journey.
