Serati is an artist and activist from Johannesburg utilizing the mediums of music, poetry, stage performance, storytelling, and essay writing to communicate ideas, to explore the human condition, and to hold a mirror to humanity. Born in Alexandra Township, her upbringing was divided between different parts of Johannesburg as well as Boston, USA and London, England; this along with her travels within southern Africa, has given her a diverse, multicultural, and transcontinental life experience which informs her art and her politics. Accompanied by an incredible band of Cape Town musicians Serati promises to give you a show that takes you on a journey through her intimate world and through the African continent by means of Congolese guitar, Zimbabwean mbira, Cape Verdean rhythms, and of course her own folk/soul roots.
