Eleas Quartet in Greyton

The exciting Eleas Quartet from Lucerne will be performing in Greyton on 15 July at 15:00 at the Dutch Reformed Church.

"Established in 2021, the Eleas Quartet brings together four outstanding young musicians —Johanna Kulke, Rahel Castelberg, Catarina Marques and Colette Brand — coming from Germany, Switzerland, Portugal and South Africa. The quartet is committed to building a versatile repertoire that highlights their diverse musical backgrounds which include classical, folk, jazz and contemporary music. Currently their concert program is mainly made up of classical and contemporary repertoire.

Based in Switzerland, the Eleas Quartet regularly works with Daniel Dodds, Igor Karsko and Isabel Charisius at the Hochschule Luzern Musik. Furthermore the quartet is coached by Simon Heggendorn from the Kaleidoscope String Quartet on jazz and improvisational techniques. As part of the Academy for Contemporary Music in Lucerne, the quartet worked with Garth Knox and Melise Mellinger on a piece composed by their own violinist, Johanna Kulke. In September 2022 the group also appeared in an event in the concert hall of the KKL Luzern.

Highlights for 2023 so far included the performance of Haydn’s String Quartet Op. 76, No. 4 together with Leoš Janácek’s String Quartet No. 1, otherwise known as the "Kreutzer Sonata", as part of the Eleas Quartet‘s invitation to the “Szenenwechsel” Music Festival in Lucerne. The group was invited to the Schaffhausen Meisterkurse in February where they had masterclasses with Oliver Wille, Wen-Sinn Yang, Werner Bärtschi and Bernd Glemser.

The Eleas Quartet is presently putting together a program for their concert tour to South Africa in July of this year. The tour will include the quartet‘s participation in the Stellenbosch International Chamber Music Festival to which they have been invited. In to the near future the Eleas Quartet will appear in concert venues such as The Factory in Lucerne."
