Friday Night Live - SunMan

Friday Night Live is a series of beautiful, intimate performances from some of the most exciting talent Cape Town and South Africa has to offer, hosted at the KAYA Café. Friday Night Live is an event for performers to take in their own direction, creating an environment for audiences to engage deeply with the music, the meaning, and the people behind it all.

In the latest installment of the Friday Night Live series, we are joined by SunMan. The names behind SunMan are 21-year-olds Luca Paterson-Jones (vocals and songwriting), Zac Hasenfuss (guitar and production) and Niclaus Duvenhage (keys and production), became friends in high school after bonding over music and formed the band shortly after leaving high school.

It was their shared love of experimenting while making music that led them to their decision to pour all their effort into SunMan. Their debut EP Love and Other Accidents (2022), available to stream on Apple Music in Spatial Audio, is a nostalgic take on modern rock, rooted in Paterson-Jones’ unique and light timbre, that incorporates stylistic elements from multiple genres.

Opening the show will be Freddy L, an incredibly talented Indie/Alt/Soul singer & songwriter from Durban who has graced the stages of Spashy Fen, Beats in the bush, Expresso and many more.
