ABOUT

An annual collaborative Southern African hybrid event, the Africa Textile Talks organised between South Africa and Mauritius, celebrates sustainability, environmentalism and circular solutions to future fit our communities and our fashion, craft and textile industries. The festival - focused on textiles, fibres, craft and fashion - shares ideas and celebrates changemakers to shift the way we relate to nature by exploring regenerative farming, [compostable] natural fibres, circular design and fashion. Through culturally diverse and inclusive interaction, exchange and experimentation across the sub-continent, we are growing a movement of ethical, circular and sustainable growers, processors, makers, designers, retailers, creatives and innovators. This hybrid Southern African event presented by Twyg (South Africa) and Imiloa Collective (Mauritius) is focused on textiles, slow fashion, craft and design. The event is a combination of discussions, workshops and talks offering in-depth and lived experiences of natural fibre farming, textile processing, designing and crafting.

The Africa Textile Talks 2023 programme will contribute to the new slow fashion and textiles narrative - one which is inclusive, supportive, authentic, circular, environmentally conscious and appropriate to Southern Africa.
