ABOUT

Bokani Dyer and his Trio start their Freedom Day weekend tour in Cape Town with a concert at the UCT College of Music.

Bokani Dyer is a leader of the new wave of contemporary young jazz artists from South Africa. A pianist and composer, his music is appreciated for its creativity and emotional depth, with “soulful notes, spiritual tones, sophisticated concepts, and simply presented notions”.  His repertoire reflects both a strong sense of cultural identity as well as his philosophy of musical egalitarianism, a celebration of all music with no borders.  Winner of multiple awards, Dyer has played on stages including at the Safaricom festival in Kenya, the opening of the London Jazz Festival and at Jazzahead in Bremen, Germany.
The Bokani Dyer Trio includes drummer Sphelelo Mazibuko and bassist Romy Brauteseth.

His is a strong, individual sound and an emblem of the rise of a new wave of contemporary jazz voices. – Mail & Guardian.
