Rebel Sistah Cypher, is an imaginary circle of sisterhood, the objective of Rebel Sistah Cypher is to mobilise and organise womxn who feel the chains of oppression. It is an artistic platform aims at creating a safe space to foster conversations that promote the liberation of womxn, Rebel Sistah Cypher seeks to uplift and amplify the voices of the voices off the unheard particularly the marginalised empowering them with the necessary educational tools to critically analyse and collectively develop alternatives in the fight against capitalism, exploitation and patriarchal domination.
Rebel Sistah Cypher it is a space that is against all forms of oppression and it challenges patriarchy, sexism, misogyny, racism etc. Rebel Sistah Cypher is a space where womxn gather to share their experiences and their stories through music and political discussion together with activist, speakers and artists.
Rebel Sistah Cypher is a four-part series, each series is based on a specific theme, various artists are then invited into a “Workshop.” In the workshop we share educational tools, visuals, booklets we then have a discussion, it is through this workshop that we get a collective understanding of the theme. We then have the day of the event were we invite the broader community to come join the space. The final output becomes a recording were all the artists who participated in the workshop and the event we do a recording of the work we have developed.
Series Number One: No Rain, No Flowers, is a political intervention that seeks to address the issues of global warming and climate change. No Rain, No Flowers aims to foster a difficult conversation about how drastic the lives of the working class has drastically changed as we have to adopt to the extreme weather conditions than we are used too. The soil can no longer hold us steadily, it is oozing telling the experience of being stripped of parts of itself. Climate change has made they day to day living in the outskirts, in the peripheries unbearable, the health of the working class is in japedy as we do not have land to plant the flowers, we have water to irrigate the flowers, the rain does no longer come as delegate as it used to.
We are no longer in touch with nature, we are strangers in the environment that our ancestors once lived. Issues of global warming directly impact womxn today there is No Rain, No Flowers. We are struggling to access the most basic clean air and water; the objective of this series is to have conversations around Just Transition and preserve the little that has been left in our environment for future generations.
We will bring poets, musicians, activists and various NGO’s that we have worked and collaborated with.
