Kids Dental Home Foundation Charity Ride

Tue Mar 21, 07:30 - Tue Mar 21, 10:30

Kolonnade Retail Park Mall, Montana

ABOUT

We are excited to host our 2nd Annual Pro Bono Dental Surgeries with Kids Dental Home Foundation for 20 kids with Early Childhood Caries, ECC, who cannot afford theatre fees.

ECC is a major oral health problem and constitutes a serious public health problem worldwide, mainly in socially disadvantaged populations. It is however, one of the largely preventable diseases; and remains to be one of the most common childhood diseases.

As a foundation we do recognise that oral health plays an important role in children, to maintain their oral functions and is therefore required for eating, speech development and a positive image.

Since 2022, Kids Dental Home Foundation has established a programme to help such affected children by performing pro bono surgeries on an annual basis. This is done in commemoration of the World Oral Health Day. Last year alone, 10 kids benefited for the programme and for 2023, 20 kids have already been identified. The plan is to do more pending availability of funds.

14 surgeries will be conducted on the 31st March 2023 at Nelson Mandela Children's Hospital, Johannesburg and the other 7 at one of the local hospitals in Pretoria.

As a build up to these surgeries, we have organised our first ever Charity Ride #RideDentalSurgeries on the 21st March 2023 to create awareness and raise funds towards covering the costs of these surgeries.

Who is Invited for the Ride?

  • All cyclists, advanced and intermediate
  • Business people
  • Parents and children
  • Other athletes who wish to participate

NB: Those who cannot cycle but wish to just walk or run, will also be accommodated in the 5km category.

Description of Routes: Start & Finish Point (Kolonnade Retail Park Mall)

60km will move from Kolonnade Retail Park at 5:30am onto Sefako Makgatho Road facing west. Then turn left into Moloto Road, the road has very nice and enjoyable climbs, some long and others short. (Nothing really hectic to a seasoned rider). Pass Roodeplat Dam Resort on the right and Agricultural Research Council (ARC) on the left soon after that. After a long climb, look for the Turn right at Kameeldrift sign to connect into Kameelfontein road passing through a few country estates with very beautiful scenery. Riders may wish to stop for a moment at the bridge with views of Roodeplat Dam, for some nice pics before a long climb, slightly challenging but doable. Then turn into Kievits Kroon road, beautiful country views towards Kameeldrift Road. Turn left at Kameeldrift Road and riding through back towards Sefako Makgatho Road. Turn left at Breed Street up to Besembesie Street, turn right until Enkeldoorn Avenue. Ride straight down towards Zambezi then straight back to Kolonnade Retail Park Mall where the ride started.

30km will move from Kolonnade Retail Park at 6:00am onto Sefako Makgatho Road facing west. Then turn left into Moloto Road, the road has very nice and enjoyable climbs, some long and others short. Instead of proceeding, please look for the Kameeldrift Road and turn right. Pass Zambi Bush on your left and proceed straight up to the T-Junction. Turn left at T-Junction and go up a few climbs all the way down and turn right at Kievits Kroon, it's quite a long climb, take it steady and keep going up to end. At the end of the road make a U-Turn and following the same route back to the the starting point at Kolonnade Retail Park Mall.

5km On their arrival, all riders will join everyone i.e. kids with their parents, runners etc. for a 5km walk/run/ride at 7:30 around Montana Park. Is Kids Dental Home Foundation a registered NPO?

Yes! Kids Dental Home Foundation was founded and registered in 2022 as a non-profit organisation (NPO 2022/414 998/08), following the discovery of an extensive number of children enduring the pain that comes with the Early Childhood Caries, ECC, waiting in long queues at the public hospitals for theatre admissions because they could not afford theatre costs.

Same year, in 2022, 10 kids were identified and 10 surgeries performed already as a result of this initiative.

Your support will go a long a way in helping more kids benefit from this initiative.

Thank you in advance and blessings!
