ABOUT
Slide guitar, harmonica, African blues guitar stylings and soul vocals all feature in the
fresh sound of Robin Auld. Singer of some of the most played songs in South African
radio history such as All of Woman, Baby you been good, Perfect Day and many
others, Robin Auld's music has evolved from the poprock sound of his early hits into
a contemporary and sparky mix of roots and blues.
Born in Lusaka, Zambia to Scots parents, Robin's childhood was spent alternating
between Southern Africa and Scotland; a journey reflected in the African and Celtic
influences in his music. He learned to play the guitar by listening to Hendrix, Ry
Cooder and Neil Young, also absorbing influences from the various guitarists of
Southern Africa such as Philip Tabane.
His first albums were produced by Kevin "Caveman" Shirley, which resulted in the
SA hits "All of Woman" and "Baby you been good."
With several extended stints abroad he has continued to record in both South Africa,
New York and the UK, releasing another thirteen albums and performing at festivals
such as Cambridge Folk Festival, Tartan Hearts, Gold Coast Ocean Fest,
Grahamstown Festival and Womad.
His acclaimed latest release, "The Everlovin' Wind"... recorded in Kalk Bay, Cape
Town, with contributions from some of the Cape's top musicians, has been received
enthusiastically with the first single "Underground" charting nationally on Mix FM
and other stations.
