In the footsteps of heroes - Human Rights and Ferreirasdorp

In anticipation of Human Rights Day, we’ll be visiting sites around Ferreirasdorp associated with people in the forefront of the struggle for Human Rights. We will also remember those communities whose rights were so brutally ignored. 

Starting with the heroes, we’ll walk in the footsteps of Nelson Mandela, Oliver Tambo, George Bizos and both Sisulus (Walter and Albertina, whom we meet on a love seat). We’ll then move on to Canon Ridout and his Cathedral called St Albans, not to forget ‘Kathy’ Kathrada and Ahmed Timol. 

Although we will only be meeting these heroes in spirit, some of the buildings where they worked or were detained are still standing - despite the work of the bulldozers - and we’ll be visiting them all.

The JHF has done much of the restoration work to beautiful St Alban’s and, now that the partitions along the south aisle have been removed, we can all enjoy the full volume of the nave with sunlight pouring through the windows on the north side.
