ABOUT
AN AUDIO VISUAL JOURNEY FOR THOSE WHO LOVE THE SEA
Join the founder of Wavescape, surf forecaster Spike, for a fun and graphical evening- into the deep ocean and into the eye of fierce storms to see how they create waves, and how these waves radiate away from the force that created them. Spike shows us how energy is transferred into the water and how this is manifested when swells travel through the ocean, to eventually break on a distant shore. Lastly, there is a section about the Internet and a look at digital prediction tools, as well as case studies of giant storms, and the big waves and damage they have caused.
Part 1: Origin (30 minutes)
What causes swell? We visit huge weather systems and watch as they form huge waves.
Part 2: Energy (30 minutes)
We look at wave mechanics and how waves absorb energy and express this energy as they move through the ocean. Content warning! A mild dose of maths ahead.
Dinner (chicken curry/ veg curry and salads) and refreshment included in price
Part 3: Result (30 minutes)
What happens when swells arrive at the shore? How do forecasts work, and which Internet charts are best for what purpose?
