RKO's music extends from a deeply rooted place, taking on Ghoema, Latin and Africana music, including anything else found along the gravel road. However, the lyrics are firm on the present.

With acoustic equipment almost as old as their motto, their sound includes violin, guitars, harmonica, bass, kazoo and an old penny whistle.

On April 20, 2017, RKO was honoured with the FAK - Prestige Award for their excellent promotion of South African folk music.
