The Lease Agreement is the contract between the landlord and tenant and, as such, if the key document that governs the landlord-tenant relationship.

As such it’s the first point of reference in the event of a disagreement or a dispute, as well as the guiding document to determine when either of the parties breaches any of the agreed upon terms, as well as the recourses available to the parties in the event of a breach.

In terms of the Consumer Protection Act it’s important that rental agents fully understand the terms and conditions of the lease agreement very well as they are expected to be able to explain them to tenants and landlords, as well as advise landlords regarding breaches and their recourses under the lease.
