ABOUT
Goodkat appear on the horizon: dark troubadours against a red-dusted evening. The soot, the brawls and all the cool cats of the long road are scribbled on crumpled, yellowing paper in their back pockets. With their self-proclaimed ‘dirty kitchen rock,' they have come to stir up something raucous in a smoky bar near you. Their music is a full-bodied, sexy, slam-down-your-whiskey-glass-for-another style of Rock ‘n’ Roll Blues with a funky, folkloric edge that keeps listeners captivated. Joined on stage with their friends from The Gambles at the legendary Daisy Jones Bar , you know you're in for a great night!

The name “The Gambles” symbolises the different kinds of genres apparent in their music. “Our music is a gamble, you never now what you’re gonna get. What starts as a blues song, might end up sounding like a combination of reggae and blues.” Their creative process is always interesting, and different for every song. Each of the members come from various backgrounds and influences, ranging from rock to blues to reggae, and everything in between.
Goodkat started as The Brothers Goodkat back in 2010 with brothers Rohann and Neels Smit on guitar and keys and, after some lineup changes and a few years hiatus, they were joined by Paul De Villiers and Du Toit Kemp on bass and drums. Influenced by the vocal grittiness of Tom Waits, the swagger-piano of Peter Cincotti, the Old West murder ballads of Murder by Death; they fuse these forces to create something that is truly their own.
Having recorded a new album recently with music legend Jo Ellis, they are looking forward to sharing the new tunes with you guys on the night the songs drop on all streaming services.
