Stop, Run & Ride @ Beskuitfontein Trails

Beskuitfontein Trails will be hosting its 4^th annual Trail Running event this year on the 17^th of December 2022. This year the event has been restructured and renamed! The Stop, Run & Ride @ Beskuitfontein Trails event will still offer its beautifully scenic trail running routes, but will this year also include a Junior trail running race, a Mountain Bike race, and a newly launched Junior Mountain Bike Course! The event takes place at the Beskuitfontein Trails Race Village located on Beskuitfontein, a working sheep farm in the eastern Karoo. At Beskuitfontein we are passionate about sustainable farming in the Karoo, and about sharing information and access to the piece of land we have been given to farm. We are also passionate about family and community, and believe there are few more meaningful and revitalizing experiences than spending time with friends and loved ones in nature.

All the race routes start and finish at the Beskuitfontein Race Village which is conveniently located on the N9/N10 highway between Middelburg, Hanover and Colesberg. This makes the event ideally located for an adventure-filled stop-over on your way to your December-holiday destination! Beskuitfontein is located just north of Middelburg Karoo, literally in the heart of South Africa. It is surrounded by the mountains of the Eastern Karoo, where runners, hikers and mountain bikers can enjoy spectacular views and rugged desert-like terrain which can morph into grassy green hills and crystal-clear streams after a good rain event.

The event’s beautiful, well-marked trail routes include water points for all distances with delicious Karoo goodies at each point, a special Beskuitfontein medal for each finisher, and prizes for winners of each distance. Food and drink stalls will be offering freshly brewed moerkoffie, Beskuitfontein’s famous home-made beskuit, gourmet roosterkoeke and more! Refreshments will also be sold at the race village.

Camping is available at the race village which offers ablutions with flush toilets, showers and large communal braai-area. Race entries and their families can also book accommodation at the various establishments in Middelburg (25km to the south of Beskuitfontein) or Colesberg (70km to the north of Beskuitfontein). 

This year the event will again form part of the Stop Stay & Play programme which is coordinated by Middelburg Karoo Tourism. The programme takes place from the 9^th to the 17^th of December 2022, and includes the Sir Herbert Baker Historical Route, river rafting, art classes, the Schoombee Skoffel, and more.
