The keynote speaker, Leona Valerie Theron is a judge on the Constitutional Court of South Africa. She was appointed to the bench in 1999, aged 33, becoming the first black woman judge on the Kwa-Zulu Natal High Court. Justice Theron grew up in Wentworth, a former coloured township in the south of Durban. From humble beginnings, her remarkable story tells of how she overcame hardship and adversity and emerged a beacon of resilience. Through hard work and determination Justice Theron rose through the ranks of the Justice System. From High Court she was elevated to the Supreme Court of Appeal. Today she is one of eleven justices on the Constitutional Court and holds the Chairperson position in a number of organizations across the arts and legal fraternity. Her story motivates, inspires and empowers. Her story conveys the message..... "it is possible".
