"IS SA ON THE BRINK?" - An evening with Eusebius Mckaiser

Thu Jul 28, 18:30 - Thu Jul 28, 20:30

Building 3 Auditorium - Deloitte & Touche (Woodmead)

ABOUT

Twenty two years after the birth of South Africa’s democracy, we ask the question is SA on the brink? The end of Apartheid saw South Africa emerge as a model for the possibilities of peace and reconciliation. The impossible had come to pass and with that, South Africans were walking hand in hand and committing to an all-inclusive democracy. Twenty two years later, is South Africa on the brink?

Institutionalised corruption accented by an over-inflated civil service; economic mismanagement leading to capital flight and visibly strained race relations all paint a concerning picture of uncertainly, helplessness and hopelessness. Is South Africa on the brink? Or, is there hope for us and our country?  Join us for a night of insightful perspectives with Eusibius McKaiser as he unpacks this issue by clarifying the indistinct and challenging us to think beyond the obvious.

Eusebius McKaiser is a widely respected South African political analyst, broadcaster, facilitator, author, and public speaker, based in Johannesburg. McKaiser is well-known for combining evidence-based analysis of the state of the South African democracy with trenchant, unambiguous argument about the state of the state, the quality of the South African democracy, and long-run political prospects.

This event is being hosted by the Black Professionals Scholarship Fund (BPSF). We are an organisation which is founded and led by young professionals in the spirit of active citizenship. This guest speaker event is a fund raising initiative for the BPSF which is currently funding three students in university after having been launched in 2014. The medium term vision of the fund is to be able to fund ten students by the year 2020. The guest speaker event is sponsored by Deloitte & Touche and will also provide a great networking platform to discuss issues of national interest.
