Welgemeend Concert Hall

ABOUT

It is once again Jan van Riebeeck High School’s privilege to host the Pieter Kooij Music Competition, in collaboration with the Welgemeend School of Music. This year we are proudly hosting the competition for the 14th successive year!

Pieter Kooij, well-known former music teacher of the school and a respected music personality, passed away in 2018, but through his generous donation we are thrilled to keep the competition running for years to come. The Pieter Kooij Trust will grant the prize money of R7 000 for the winner and R4 000 for the runner-up. Category prizes will also include Best Baroque Performance, Best Romantic Performance, Best String Player, Best Pianist and Best Woodwind/Brass Instrumentalist, each to the value of R1000.

We are very excited to present our finalists for this year:

Alex McIvor - piano

Daniel Hutton - clarinet

Emma Steenkamp - violin

Janine Venter - flute

Jonathan Clarke - clarinet

Keon Muller - saxophone

Kian Goliath - saxophone

Madison le Roux - piano

Viviana Pearson - piano

We will also welcome Isaac van der Merwe, the winner of the 2021 competition. He will be gracing the stage and end of the evening before the announcement of the winners.

This wonderful concert will take place on Saturday, 3 September 2022, in the beautiful Welgemeend Concert Hall, in Gardens Cape Town. Tickets are R100 and include refreshments at the cocktail party as part of the prize giving after the concert.

Don't miss out on this exceptional evening of young virtuosi performances.
