ABOUT
Frikkie Hermes Duvenhage
UNINVITED
Artists: Neil Sandilands, Schalk Joubert & Albert Frost
This below-the-radar show is South African award-winning, veteran actor Neil Sandilands’ first attempt showcasing his SAMA nominated work from a musical oeuvre he compiled within the last two years. He’s been thinking about it for 47 years. It features work from the album “Sangoma Sandilands & Jou Pa se Posse” as well as his EP’s “Die Groot 5” & “Die Groot Niks”.
The audience may recognize music from the M-Net Originals Production “Desert Rose”. Songs like “Woestynroos” & “Maanskyn” has already made their way into shared cultural Afrikaans discourse. Sandilands collaborated with long-time pals Schalk Joubert & Albert Frost to conjure this “we-know-not-what-yet” show. Sandilands can hardly walk and chew gum at the same time. Where he lacks any real understanding he makes up with sheer enthusiasm and Randfontein survival tactics.
You, the discerning audience member, may want to jump on this opportunity to see the actor from shows like “Sweet Tooth”, “The Flash”, “The 100”, “7de Laan”, “Orion” and a whole lot more, commit something loosely described as musical: Frikkie Hermes Duvenhage “UNINVITED”. It may or may not ever happen again. Who knows? You will.
Schalk Joubert is one of South Africa’s most celebrated bassists, with a career spanning almost 25 years. He has won numerous awards for both individual performance and production. He has worked with a very long list of South African artists (including luminaries like David Kramer, Hugh Masakela, and Anton Goosen), and has toured the globe with international stars like Michelle Shocked, as well as his own highly acclaimed group, The 3 Continents Sextet.
Albert Frost is a South African blues singer, rock guitarist, and producer who has been performing since 1994. In 2017 he won the SAM Award for Best Rock Album for The Wake Up. This year, 2022 he is once again nominated for his latest album “Sacred Sound”.
Who knows what may twist your head at the Blomhuis Theatre on the 21st of August 2022? Doors open at 5, show at 7. In the words of Friedrich Nietzsche, “It is a peerless privilege to be a listener here. No one is “at liberty” to have ears for Zarathustra."
