From the swampy banks of the mighty Mississippi the blues was born and gave birth to the rebellious soul and spirit of rock n' roll. In the late sixties a movement started in the south where young musicians took the blues, added a pinch of southern soul and smoothed it all out with a touch of rock n roll.
It started with the godfathers, The Allman Brother Band, who laid down the blueprint of long free flowing jams with musical virtuosity and soul. Duane Allman set the bar with his trusty Les Paul and Marshall guitars - and a new genrê was born. The torch was passed on by the mighty Lynyrd Skynyrd who took the music to another level with their 3 guitar attack.
We take a trip through the years all the way to the modern torchbearers, The Black Crowes, through some detours to Texas and Canada with ZZ Top & The Band along the way.
So get your Jack Daniels and get ready to put your lighter in the air and shout FREEBIRD!
