ABOUT

It’s evident that Thamie Peace Mahlangu, Tembisa born saxophonist, has made his dreams a reality through sweat, determination and hard work, he is truly reaping the fruits of his labour. An accredited artist and lecturer, Thamie indeed took the ‘A train’ to his dreams. Only at the fond age of 12 years did saxophonist Thamie begin to explore his musical talent, he started playing the trumpet and he was later taught the clarinet. By age 14 he was hard to go unnoticed, 2007 his talents were further discovered and nurtured at the Moses Taiwa Molelekwa Art Foundation. Being an eminent ingredient to the Moses Taiwa Molelekwa Art Foundation band, also known as the Taiwa Jazz Band (2008-2012), he had shared a stage with renowned percussionist Poncho Sanchez at a workshop held in Johannesburg at the Moses Molelekwa Art Centre by the Standard Bank Joy of Jazz. At this remarkable and extraordinarily high quality pace Thamie has previously staged his impressive talents with huge names; Hugh Masikela( Late Legend), Feya Faku, McCoy Mrubutu, Zim Nqawana, Sydney Minsi, Boney Rachabane, Zonke and international singer Lira. Apart from sharing stages with the ‘ Greats’, Thami has made personal achievements in the Jazz scene, nominated for 3 consecutive years (directed by Concord Nkabinde, Carlo Mombeli and Buddy Wells) to be part of the Standard Bank National Youth Jazz Band, chosen amongst over 1000 participants. National, international tours, Thamie is making his mark, having travelled to Amsterdam with legend herself, Letta Mbuli, Switzerland ( Verbier Festival), Belgium Brussels, Germany ( Elphilharmonie), Ludwigsburger, Berlin ( Young Euro Classic Festival), Austria ( Villach), Italy ( Toblach Manier Festival) and the European Parliament with an orchestra group of young talented musicians from all over the world called Music Is A Great Investment- MIAGI. With such experiences with various artists and performances more opportunities followed both national and international, recognizable cooperate brands such as Standard Bank, Abi, JSE and several government functions. Having an abundant life of experience in the music industry, Thamsanca attained a B-Tech and is currently a part-time lecturer at the same institution he graduated from, the Tshwane University of Technology at the department of Jazz and Popular Music.
