Overview

An easy scramble up from Cecilia Forest exploring Caveman's Overhang at the top of the mountain.

Route description

From the parking lot, follow the Cecilia stream up towards the contour path. Make your way up Rooikat Ravine until reaching the start of Cecilia Ridge. By now your climbing legs should be ready! After the Cecilia Ridge climb you will pop out on the concrete road just before the Overseers Hut. 

Time to explore the top of the mountain! We'll visit Caveman's Overhang - a large overhang overlooking Orange Kloof offering solitude and breathtaking views. Be prepared to do some bushwacking as the trail is a bit overgrown and there are some sections that might require a fair bit of caution.

We'll then make our way back to Cecilia ridge and descend the same way down.

Please note:

- This is NOT a beginner hike as some general hiking fitness will be required to get you through the steep sections

- The above distances and times are estimates

- The route is subject to change based on weather conditions and/or group's ability and other factors that may influence the hike

- Make sure you arrive on time as we will start the briefing at 7am and leave at 7:15am sharp 

-Please bring enough food and hydration for 4 hours of hiking, a charged cell phone and a jacket.
