Achmat Hassiem (born 6 May 1982) is a South African swimmer who was injured in an attack by a great white shark. He competed at the 2008 Summer Paralympics and at the 2012 Summer Paralympics in London. Achmat, 2x Paralympian, and a bronze medalist, underwent routine back surgery. Post-operative complications resulted in him being in a coma and on life support in ICU. Achmat is currently out of ICU and is recovering at home with his family. Once Achmat has gained consciousness he will need rehabilitation to eat, walk, talk and more which could last for months, if not years. He is going to need numerous medical interventions once he makes a full recovery from the coma. As an ex-lifesaving member I would like to raise funds for Achmat by orchestrating a raffle as a fundraiser. Weekly updates of raffle prizes will be updated on the Instagram page @save_sharkboy.
