Join Richard Cock and the Chanticleer Singers for an evening of music to celebrate the life of the artist Dirk Meerkotter whose centenary falls this year. The music will be combined with visual illustrations to demonstrate Meerkotter’s enormous diversity and creativity. The Artworks have inspired the choice of music which ranges from early French music, to music by Lauridsen, van Dijk, Rheinberger and the premiere of a work, “Music for a While” by Este Meerkotter, granddaughter of the artist.
The exhibition was curated by Gordon Froud and artworks will be on display from 18:00. The concert begins at 19:30. It is being held in the Cor Dirks Hall at Hoërskool Linden where the Meerkotter children were students.
Meerkotter himself said that he saw sound in colour and listened to the music emanating from his paintings.
An unusual and captivating concert will result from this meeting of art and music, sight and sound.
