Ukutshona by Internet Athi

Fri Jul 29, 20:00 - Fri Jul 29, 22:00

Selective Live

ABOUT

Following his warm debut performance at the 2022 National Arts Festival in Makhanda, Internet Athi brings back home his fourth live musical exhibition, "Ukutshona". Translated from IsiXhosa, ukutshona means to sink or to drown. In some cases it means to fail. This live show is the artist's attempt to embrace failure both as a creative and as a human being.

Internet Athi is a Cape Town based artist. He is a singer, a song writer who debuted the Selective Live stage with an intimate musical presentation drenched with his vulnerable spoken word. He marries his pen with the soundscape of his guitar. His singing carries nostalgia and intimacy. He brings witty and thought-provoking lyrics written in South African vernacular. Athi blends memory and the present with his catchy tunes and honest voice while pulling strangers, the audience, into a world of duality that feels familiar to all.

While his recent shows in Cape Town were an elaborate Jazz and Neo-Soul experience with an ensemble of stellar musicians and features, he brings to this stage a set that defines his sound accompanied by his band and special guests.

Live, Internet Athi is transcendent – whether solo or with his band – and is truly an act to witness.

Tickets will be sold at R150 at the door.
