Southside church is passionate about education and ensuring this generation is given every opportunity to succeed. To this end, we will start our education arm, Southside EdX. Our first Southside EdX Talk will be held on Saturday, 20 August 2022, at 9 am, where will be hosting our grade 11 and 12 learners, their parent, and principals at Southside Church, 24 Corvette Ave, Sun Valley. We understand that learners, parents, and principals are under enormous pressure to succeed, and we aim to assist where possible.

Professor Jonathan Jansen, the Professor of Education at the University of Stellenbosch, will address how principals, learners and parents can best ensure our learners are given every chance to succeed. Professor Jansen started his career as a biology teacher in the Cape after receiving his science degree from the University of the Western Cape. He obtained an MS degree from Cornell University and a PhD from Stanford. He holds honorary degrees from the University of Edinburgh, University of Vermont, and Cleveland State University.

During this Southside EdX Talk, he will be addressing questions such as:

• What are my options after school?
• Should I consider a gap year?
• What to do if I must change my subject choices?
• What resources are available to schools to help them succeed?
• How/when should parents get involved in learners’ education?
• What should learners do if they don’t know what to do after school?
