ABOUT

Award-winning education innovators, Play Africa, will celebrate this year’s World Play Day on May 28th with the official reopening of its acclaimed exhibition at its Children’s Museum at Constitution Hill.

Play Africa’s welcoming, interactive physical space for schools, caregivers and parents opens its doors at 09h00 on Saturday (World Play Day 2022) with the playful fun taking place until 14h00. During the day there will be three one-hour sessions on each aspect of the exhibition as well as an extended session of open play - all showcasing a unique museum that offers children equitable learning experiences that bridge divides and help build South Africa.

World Play Day marks the day in 1987 when the International Toy Library Association (ITLA) was first proposed. ITLA actively promotes play, playful interaction and playthings that are essential to optimal educational, physical, psychological, social and cultural development in toy libraries. In 2022, World Play Day’s theme is “Rediscover Play … Recover Through Play”, which resonates profoundly with Play Africa’s overall vision for a more just and equitable society that honours children and celebrates the human dignity, creativity and potential inside every child.

As part of its commitment to facilitate transformative, innovative playful learning experiences for children, parents and educators, Play Africa’s exhibition focuses on three areas - all of which can be experienced at the Constitution Hill space. Facilitators will be on hand to take visitors through the exhibition.
