Wits Planetarium Centenary Free Shows

The Wits Planetarium (planetarium.co.za), under the auspices of the School of Physics, cordially invites all staff and students at Wits to a series of free shows at the Planetarium to bid farewell to our beloved, over 60-year-old mechanical star projector. At the end of June 2022, the Planetarium will undergo renovations, and the flagship multidisciplinary Digital Dome Centenary project (wits-astro.org/digital-dome) will commence. Part of this project will involve disassembling and storing the mechanical star projector until it finds a permanent home. Therefore, this will be the last opportunity to view this historic technological marvel in operation, as it will be replaced with a fully digital full dome projection system.
