ABOUT

Bringing you a South African jazz experience from local artists, the Afrikan Freedom Principle is excited to present its two month concert series Jazz At The Studio at the Mangrove in Braamfontein. If you're feeling the blues, then this concert series has got the tunes for you.

Curated by Mandla Mlangeni, The Afrikan Freedom Principle creates a platform where musicians and independent art practitioners can connect to audiences who have an appreciation and interest for South African Jazz music. They believe in the effectiveness of music in fostering a positive relationship, growth and development in the community.

The upcoming concert series will be taking place at Mangrove which is a cafe, restaurant and bar that aims to become a community space that houses different creative minds. It is a meeting and event space for people living in Braamfontein, artists, activists and entrepreneurs. This upcoming concert series will feature Ntando Ngcapu, Teboho Kobedi, Ofentse Sebula, Ncamisa Nqana, Rorisang Sechele, Thami Mahlangu and Mathunzi MacDonald.

The Afrikan Freedom Principle was initially set up and presented as a concert series in Cape Town, South Africa from 2013 to 2014 as a music driven, collaborative, non-profit project with the intent to empower artistic agency through different communities and partnerships with emblematic venues across the country. They have done this by facilitating different conversations with musicians, artists and stakeholders in the creative sectors of South Africa. In doing this they aim to create ways to share artistic and creative skills and start a positive dialogue about the cultural, social and economic situation within the community.

The performances will take place every Thursday from 7pm
