This course is for you!

Suitable for couples or singles (if you are willing to be paired up),

We will take you through the fundamentals over the course of four 2 hour sessions on Tuesday nights.



Session 1: Fundamentals of Safety (3 May 7-9PM)


  • Physical Safety
  • Emotional Safety
  • Relational Safety
  • Introduction to Communication in Ropes
  • Navigating Uncertainty
  • Intention in rope
  • Basics of Rope Handling



Session 2: Fundamentals of Tying - Part 1 (10 May 7-9PM)


  • The single column tie
  • Single column variations
  • Single column placement
  • Creative single column application



Session 3: Fundamentals of Tying - Part 2 (17 May 7-9PM)


  • The In-line cuff
  • Wraps and Frictions
  • Yuki Knot (quick release)



Session 4: Fundamentals of Body Handling (24 May 7-9PM)


  • Transitioning the body on the floor
  • Moving with the breath
  • Ichinawa (one rope ties) with intention


Sessions 1-3 do not require a partner, but session 4 does. This is a technical rope class for people serious about nailing the basics.

This class (or equivalent private tuition) is a pre-requisite for our intermediate classes.

Important Information


Please wear something you can comfortably sit in / move around in. Leggings > sweatpants > jeans.

Masks are required indoors.

If you have rope, bring it along. Otherwise you are welcome to use our class rope.

About your educators


Astrid (@DesirelinesBondage) has been co-creating spaces for learning the ropes in Cape Town since 2016. She is a technically rigorous rope top who brings a wholesome, empathic flavour to her teaching.

In 2021, she opened Embodiment Rope Space as a safe(r) venue for interested souls to explore the medium of Rope.
