About

Middelburg Karoo Tourism proudly presents the very first Karoo Winter Wool Festival! The Festival provides a unique experience that promotes one of the products the Karoo is most famous for - wool! All of the events on the festival programme are for the whole family to enjoy - and all showcasing Merino wool in the middle of winter in- and around this special Karoo town!

On the Friday evening a Winter Wool "Skuurdans" will take place at Rusoord Farm featuring Afrikaans artist, Riaan Benadé. The Sir Herbert Baker Route will also be launched by the Middelburg Museum in the afternoon. Two of the festival's unique Wool Workshops will take place during the Friday morning and afternoon. Festival goers will also be able to enjoy a delicious Springbuck lunch at Middelburg's oldest hotel - the Karoo Country Inn. And festival goers will be able to visit Karoo Roos Padstal to try their delicious home-made lamb pies and view their unique Merino-history display and products.

On the Saturday Beskuitfontein Trails will be hosting a Winter Wool Trail Run and Mountain Biking event featuring well-marked routes in the scenic mountainous eastern Karoo. This event will be followed by a Winter Wool Market at Dwarsvlei farm which includes a speaker programme, wool workshops, woolen product market, wool exhibition, food stalls, children's entertainment and more! Once again, Karoo Roos Padstal will also be open till 14h00 showcasing their unique Merino History and selling their delicious lamb pies and woolen products. You will also be able to book a delicious Lambs Bredie and Kerrief Afval Bredie at Celtis Restaurant in the evening (bookings for the Celtis dinner to be done on this link https://www.quicket.co.za/events/176386-karoo-curry-afval-lamb-stew-evening/#/ ).

On the Sunday a lovely breakfast will be on offer at Picadilli's Coffee Shop followed by a community church service at the Middelburg NG Church. Bookings for the Picadilli's breakfast are to be made directly, and not via the Quicket online system.

Make sure to use the promotional code SPORTTEAM when entering as part of a sport team for the 5km/10km run/hike or 27km mountain bike routes (applicable to the All Inclusive ticket also).

The festival is aimed at creating awareness and interest in one of the most sustainable and special products South Africa has to offer - wool! It is organised by Middelburg Karoo Tourism which is made up by local community members and is proudly sponsored by OVK, Cape Wools SA, BKB, Core Merino and the Courier Guy.
