ABOUT

Brass Collective visit North-West University (NWU) for an exciting return performance, covering the birth and development of the brass quintet as an ensemble. This performance includes the quintessential major work for brass quintet by Malcolm Arnold, with music from South African composer Malcolm Forsyth and other works by Giovanni Gabrieli and Björk. The finale will be massed brass items in collaboration with the NWU brass.

A year after their successful last visit, Brass Collective return to the Conservatory Hall at North-West University for a programme including works by Giovanni Gabrieli, Malcolm Arnold, Michael Kamen and Björk. The Brass Age showcases music that helped define and develop the brass quintet as an ensemble.

Continuing with Brass Collective’s objective to promote works by South African composers past and present, the concert opens with a work by the celebrated Malcolm Forsyth.

As educators, the musicians of Brass Collective have been lucky enough to work alongside the NWU brass students in preparation for this concert. Following the dynamic quintet performance, NWU brass will combine forces with Brass Collective for a massed brass grand finale.
