More on each artist:
Erick Zulch is embodied within his debut album “Deeper Shade”. A mixture of soul, blues and rock that is both mellow, but powerful when the song kicks into overdrive. Having worked with the likes of blues legend Albert Frost, Erick dwells in the darker pigment of blues. Combine this with his band of lifelong friends and you have chemistry that should not be missed.
Hugo Veldsman is fast becoming a sensation in the local indie-folk and rock scene. His iconic use of roots inspired lapsteel guitar morphs into his intimate “alternative folk” style of song writing. Do not mistake Hugo’s soft song writing as the narrative for the evening, for when he and his band find themselves lost in the moment, the music can shift towards a double time Bluegrass shuffle and a Psychedelic Blues Rock vamp.
Take the Hugo Veldsman Trio, add songwriter Adriaan Thiart, and you have Blackwood Wendy. A country/folk group that scrapes the bottom of the barrel for their dark humoured and angsty story telling. These songs are chilling, beautiful and at times downright dirty with that swampy blues from a Mississippi bayou.
