WHO AM I?

My name is Lefoka Mailula. I'm a Gauteng based indie filmmaker, scriptwriter and photographer. When I launched my film career 8 years ago, I struggled to raise funds for my film. It takes 14 months to get a film made-- ha! if you are lucky. Harder still is getting distribution to make a living on this art. Then the Covid pandemic hit, making things impossible for me.

The Covid-19 pandemic saw 60% of jobs cut in the South African film industry. The difficulty of accessing film employment both directly and indirectly resulted in an R5 billion loss.

Then I realized . . . This is not only my story. It's a story that belongs to every independent filmmaker in Mzansi.

WHAT WE NEED:

As I am an indie filmmaker, I don't have the seed money to bring my vision to life:

• The creation and maintenance of a professional VOD website.

• To hire a local online marketer to help bring the voices of filmmakers to as many people as possible.

• To help foster a culture of independent filmmaking in Mzansi.

• We hope to light a path for future filmmakers.
