ABOUT

Hermanus Comedy Night Sunday 17 April

Three of South Africa’s youngest and brightest rising comedy stars are heading to Hermanus for a night of rip-roaring fun and laughter.   Kagiso KG Mokgadi, Yaaseen Barnes and Phil de Lange will be performing at the popular Hermanus Monthly comedy night to be held at the Class Room in Sandbaai on Sunday, 17 April.  Hosted by South African comedy icon and Hermanus local, Barry Hilton, it’s a night of hilarity not to be missed.  Tickets for the show are R80 and can be bought online at www.quicket.co.za or by calling 0827311311

Headlining the evening is the irrepressible Kagiso KG Mokgadi.  The son of a Sangoma and Western medicine nurse, he gives audiences a delightful glimpse into the “behind the scenes” practices of a Sangoma and what it’s like having one as your dad, a nurse for a mom and why he was never able to take a sick day at school.  He has shared the stage with SA comedy greats Riaad Moosa, Marc Lottering, David Kau and Nik Rabinowitz.   KG was voted as South Africa’s Best Breakthrough Comic of the year at the 2014 South African Comics Choice Awards and has since performed his solo show in Grahamstown, Johannesburg and Cape Town to rave reviews.

Support Act for the evening is Capetonian one-liner comedian, Yaaseen Barnes.  In 2013 he won the Joker’s Comedy Championship and in 2014 GoodHope FM’s Laugh Master.  He has performed on Comedy Central and at the Jive Funny Festival alongside the likes of Trevor Noah, Marc Lottering and Nik Rabinowitz. In 2015 he won the Newcomer of The Year in the Savannah Comics Choice Awards.  Yaaseen has written material for Stuart Taylor, opened for Riaad Moosa and performed at the Comedy Central International Festival.  He regularly features on radio and performs at all the local comedy hot spots in Cape Town.

Open Mic for the evening is Bloemfontein born Phil de Lange whose style is best described as a blend of awkward, tongue in cheek, at times self-deprecating, musical, and stand-up comedy.   His material is a reflection of his experiences as a youngster in the Free State, mixing with different cultures in Cape Town, SA’s education system, and of course trying to be the “hardcore” white boy that he is (with a ukulele in hand).   Phil performs at Cape Town’s hottest comedy venues, at corporate events and a host of festivals.   In 2014 he was a finalist in the Good Hope FM Laughmaster Competition.

It’s always a good time for a laugh and no time better than Sunday, 17 April – and you don’t need to ride over the mountain for a night of non-stop laughs with great South African comedy talent.

Light, "easy eating" meals and bar will be available.
Please note that seating is UNRESERVED.
